long sightedness and hyperopia

What is long sightedness (hyperopia)?

Long sightedness, also known in the medical world as hyperopia, is a common condition that affects your ability to focus on objects up close, while objects in the distance remain clear and in focus.

Blurry near-vision occurs when the length of the eyeball is shorter than normal, causing the light coming into your eyes to focus behind, instead of exactly on your retina. Think of a camera lens that focuses light onto a piece of film. If the light focused on the wrong spot, the image would be out of focus.

While our eyes can compensate for a little bit of long sightedness by changing the shape of the lens, significant long sightedness can cause blurry vision, headaches and tired, achy eyes.

Can long sightedness be corrected?

You can breathe a sigh of relief, because long sightedness is perfectly normal and easily corrected. What’s more, you have the choice of various types of prescription eyewear to help you see clearly.

Depending on your lifestyle, eyewear prescription and the way you use your eyes, you have access to a huge range of frames, contact lenses, prescription sunglasses and more. All of which will help bring your near-vision into focus and allow you to live your life at the fullest. Laser eye surgery is also an option pending eligibility.
