Optometry appealed to me as I wanted to be able to interact with people, have an ability to problem solve and was health based. I've been practising for over 35 years and still find it extremely rewarding. When I'm not in the practice, I'm outdoors and love grass hockey, ocean paddling and riding motorbikes.
Beila Schutz
I graduated from the School of Optometry in Johannesburg in 1984 and completed my Certificate of Advanced Study from the New England College of Optometry in Ocular Disease, Pharmaceutical Application and Neural Basis in Optometry from 1994 to 1996. I have a special interest in children's vision, focusing on their optical needs and improving their overall vision abilities with the use of Vision Therapy. I am also an active member of the Optometrist's Association of Australia, the Australian College of Behavioural Optometrists (ACBO) and the Cornea and Contact Lens Society of Australia.
Giving back
Our optometrists give community and school talks related to eye health and visual related learning difficulties. Bassendean Optical is also a collection point for Guides Dogs Australia and Optometry Giving Sight, and donates used spectacles for distribution overseas via different charities.
