Previously John Newing Optometrist, Newing & Co is a cosy, family friendly practice that endeavours to provide a high level of vision care and professionalism in optometric services, and offers a wide range of eyecare and eyewear solutions to suit your individual requirements. We embrace the rich heritage of the practice, and at the same time update the practice with the latest equipment, product and range of services. Our dedicated team enjoy meeting everyone who comes through our doors and are excited to help people better the way they view their world.

Being independent means that we can access the vast options in eyecare and eyewear that is available, and go the extra mile to look after your eyewear, your eyes and your vision. Our greatest satisfaction is in being able to make a difference through our work because we constantly seek to go beyond traditional boundaries in the field.

What we love about Shelley?
Having started E Eye Place in Port Coogee Village back in 2016, we have seen the beautiful marina estate grow and develop over the years, and are very thankful of the local community. Newing & Co has a rich heritage and is housed in a unique home practice in Shelley off Leach Highway. The local community have been very supportive and kind, and we love to be part of it.

Stephanie Yeo
Having worn spectacles at a young age, I was fastidious about eyewear and thought that optometry was about designing glasses. As I went deeper and deeper into the optometry field, I started to enjoy the medical aspect which came naturally because my grandfather was a traditional medicine practitioner who devoted his life to his patients before losing his battle with Parkinson's disease. My grandfather's life story has become and still is the blueprint of what I am now. I am in a constant pursuit to explore all realms of optometry so that I can make a difference through people's eyes and vision.
Currently, I enjoy indulging in a moment with classical music, good coffee, chocolate or cheese, when I am not busy with work, with academic work and PhD research, or my young family. I play the cello in community orchestras, recently alongside WASO too! If I had more spare time (a rarity, unfortunately), I would love to go through my book list and travel with my family.
Giving back
Our practice has been donating to a number of local school fundraisers, community raffles and providing help with eyewear to anyone in challenging situations as they come. In Dec 2016, we partnered with TOMS to help provide sight-saving eyecare or eyewear with every TOMS eyewear purchased, and also One-for-One TOMS shoes, which also contributed to the Save the Children Australia organisation. We will also be continuing to support the local sports clubs and community clubs, to continue to legacy of outgoing owners John & Glenda Newing.
