At Harris Blake Parsons, you can count on our team of experienced Optometrists to take the time to understand your needs and provide a through 45 minute examination. We employ leading technologies in eye testing and have a wide range of frame and sunglass styles that offers you plenty of choice when it comes to selecting a new pair of glasses. One thing that stands out at our practice is that we love what we do and it shows. We have been proudly servicing our local area since 1957.

Our passion for people led us to choose independent practice, as it gives us the freedom to choose the right frame and lens solution for your eyes and lifestyle. Being independent also allows us to take as long as we need with each person who walks into our practice, and thoroughly understand their needs.

The eye and vision have both always intrigued me, and still do 35 years later! I realised that this job would allow me to improve people's quality of life every day. The fact that I would be working with people one on one also really appealed to me. When I'm not practicing though, I love spending time with my family and skiing when I get the opportunity.

When I became short-sighted at a young age and was prescribed glasses in primary school, I recall being fascinated during my trips to the optometrist and all the equipment and tools there. It was an incredible experience to see clearly each time I received new glasses, and I wanted to be able to give other people that feeling of delight when they too saw clearly. I cherish my family time and playing with my young son, as well as taking time for myself to shop, keep fit and go to the beach.

I grew up with a GP for a father and sisters interested in medicine and nursing so there wasn't much choice! I had an interest in eyes from a young age due to my regular eye tests as a child and after having a day sitting in with my optometrist when I was 16, I knew it was something I wanted to do. Optometry aside, nothing gets me more excited than good food. I love cooking and the way it can bring people together.

I had my first eye test and was prescribed my first pair of glasses during my early teenage years. My love of science set me on a path to Optometry, as I loved the combination of working with people and the great variation of the job on a day to day basis. My little boy keeps me busy on my days off and I love spending quality time with him, my husband and extended family.

I always wanted to join a health profession when I grew up, and when I learned about the eyes as extensions of the brain I knew this was the profession for me. Working in this job has given me the opportunity to not only delve deeper into the complexities of the visual system, but also allows me to help people every day. Aside from Optometry, food is my other love and I enjoy trying new restaurants, baking and discovering new places.
Giving back
Optometry Giving Sight and their annual fundraiser is our charity of choice. Their important work gives sight back to people in developing countries who do not have access to the eye care and eyewear we are lucky to have. Our practice also collects old glasses that may be lying around unused on behalf of the Lion's Club, who then sends them on to underprivileged communities overseas.
