Over the last 15 years, Simpson Optometry in Canberra has grown into one of the largest independent optometry practices in Canberra and have recently expanded into new premises in the busiest part of the city. Most of our growth has come from word-of-mouth referrals, generated by our constant drive to impress our clients with personal service, thorough eye exams and great eyewear.

I wanted the freedom to determine my own path and offer Canberra expert eye care purely focused on personalised patient care. I also love the exciting challenges of running a successful business.

We're proudly located in the heart of Canberra where there's been a lot of redevelopment over the past 10 years. There's a great vibe from the street cafes and restaurants around us, and we're opposite Canberra's premier shopping mall, the Canberra Centre.

Phil Dang
I graduated from the University of New South Wales with therapeutic endorsement in 2010 and began working in private optometric practice on the NSW South Coast. I've since worked across Australia in a variety of private and corporate roles in both optometric and ophthalmic/surgical settings and I have a keen interest in refractive surgery and dry eye management. When not at work, I love martial arts, riding motorcycles and playing blues guitar.
Renita Fei Chou
I graduated from UNSW with first class Honours 17 years ago, and spent my first year in Perth's Sir Charles Gardiner Hospital before returning to Canberra. I developed a keen interest in vision training and disease detection, and earned my therapeutic qualification in 2012, so I can prescribe scheduled medications for the treatment of common eye conditions.
Margaret McCreath
I graduated from UNSW with Honours in 1994, begining at a private practice in Sydney before moving to Canberra in 2001, where my husband and I are raising four young boys and enjoying a great work-life balance. I particularly enjoy working with children and have 22 years' experience.
James Simpson
I became an independent optometrist as I loved the idea of combining a medical job with a commercial practice. Now with 28 years' experience, I originally qualified in Johannesburg and bring valuable experience from practising in the UK, South Africa and more recently, Australia, where relocated my family 17 years ago. If I'm not working, you'll probably find me indulging in my passion for cycling.
Giving back
We sponsor education programs in Africa, mostly Kenya, through a charity called Global School Partners. Their work includes building schools and clean water facilities, paying for teachers or health and hygiene educators, as well as bursaries for students. We also support Optometry Giving Sight, an international organisation that not only provides eye tests and glasses but trains optometrists in disadvantaged areas around the world. We are involved in Canberra's growing cycling community by sponsoring a team in the summer criterium series, plus support a variety of local and national charities, predominantly linked to children with cancer.
