Somerville & Merrin opened in 1999 and now operate two full-scope optometry practices in Toowoomba, including our location on Hume Street. Delivering excellence in patient care across all areas of optometry and ocular health, combined with quality products and eyewear our clients love, is what we strive for every day. Our optometrist and optical dispensers have in-depth and up to date knowledge of optics and lens technologies to ensure we are able to offer you vision solutions specific to your lifestyle.

John Merrin
My career in optometry began thorugh a friend who was interested in optometry. After finding out more, I decided it looked interesting too. Turns out he was right! After 34 years of practising, I am just as passionate about improving lives through eyecare. I cycle (a lot) in my spare time and I also enjoy playing music including the saxophone, clarinet and ukelele!
Geoff Somerville
I followed in my father's footsteps into the optometry profession, as he too was an optometrist who practiced in Toowoomba. 38 years later, I proudly continue the family tradition of quality, personalised eyecare. And when I'm not doing that, you might see me at the gym or watching motor sports.
Giving back
Somerville & Merrin's optometrists and optical assistants have been involved with the Essilor Vision Foundation in the local area and provide local school vision screening programs. Geoff Somerville donates his time every month to Toowoomba's Low Vision Clinic, run by Guide Dogs Queensland. Our Optometrists and other team members are involved with eye care clinics overseas, including the Myanmar Eye Care Program.
